Present Tense

  • yo — tengo
  • tú — tienes
  • él/ella/usted — tiene
  • nosotros — tenemos
  • vosotros — tenéis
  • ellos/ustedes — tienen

Basic Use

  • Tengo un perro. — I have a dog.
  • ¿Tienes carro? — Do you have a car?

Tener + Idiomatic Expressions

These use tener where English says "to be":

  • tener hambre — to be hungry
  • tener sed — to be thirsty
  • tener frío / calor — to be cold / hot
