Project Management — Delivering Results on Time and Budget

A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. It has a defined beginning and end.

Project vs. Operations:

Project — temporary, unique, creates change (building a bridge)

Operations — ongoing, repetitive, maintains status quo (maintaining the bridge)

The triple constraint (Iron Triangle):

Scope — what is included

Time — when it must be done

Cost — how much can be spent

Change one → affects the others. Quality is sometimes added as a fourth constraint.

The PMP Certification:

Project Management Professional — administered by PMI (Project Management Institute)

Globally recognized; one of the most valuable certifications in business

Requirements: 36 months project management experience + 35 contact hours of PM education

Exam: 180 questions, 4 hours

PMBOK Guide: Project Management Body of Knowledge — the standard guide published by PMI. The 7th edition (2021) shifted from process-based to principle-based approach.
