
Mindfulness is the quality of being fully present and aware of what you are doing and feeling, without being overwhelmed or reactive. Popularized in the West by Jon Kabat-Zinn through his Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program at the University of Massachusetts, mindfulness is both a form of meditation and a way of moving through daily life. The core skill is noticing — noticing thoughts, sensations, and emotions as they arise, without getting swept away by them.
