Endocrine System — Hormones & Glands

Hypothalamus-Pituitary axis:

Hypothalamus → releasing hormones → anterior pituitary → tropic hormones → target glands

Negative feedback: high hormone levels suppress further release

Anterior pituitary hormones (FLAT PiG):

FSH — follicle stimulating (stimulates ovaries/testes)

LH — luteinizing (triggers ovulation, testosterone)

ACTH — adrenocorticotropic (stimulates adrenal cortex → cortisol)

TSH — thyroid stimulating

Prolactin — milk production

iGF-1 mediator / Growth Hormone

Posterior pituitary (hypothalamus-made, PP-released):

ADH (vasopressin) — water reabsorption in kidneys

Oxytocin — uterine contractions, milk ejection, bonding

Other key glands:

Thyroid — T3/T4 (metabolism); calcitonin (↓ calcium)

Parathyroid — PTH (↑ calcium)

Adrenal cortex — cortisol, aldosterone

Adrenal medulla — epinephrine, norepinephrine

Pancreas — insulin (↓ glucose), glucagon (↑ glucose)
