"Superfood" is a marketing term, not a scientific classification. No single food is super — but some foods are genuinely exceptionally nutrient-dense.

Genuinely nutrient-dense foods (not hype):

  • Leafy greens (spinach, kale) — vitamins K, A, C, folate, magnesium, antioxidants
  • Blueberries — anthocyanins linked to brain health and reduced oxidative stress
  • Salmon — omega-3, protein, B12, D, selenium
  • Eggs — complete protein, choline (critical for brain health), B12, D
  • Legumes — fiber, protein, folate, iron, magnesium — consistently linked to longevity
  • Nuts — healthy fats, protein, vitamin E, magnesium
  • Olive oil — oleocanthal (anti-inflammatory), polyphenols, monounsaturated fat

Overhyped superfoods: Açaí, goji berries, moringa, wheatgrass — expensive, no evidence of benefits beyond ordinary fruits/vegetables.
