The stored-program model made computers dramatically more flexible by allowing instructions to be stored in memory alongside data. Instead of rewiring machines for each task, programmers could change behavior through code.
This was a decisive step toward modern computing. It made software central and helped turn computers from specialized calculators into general-purpose machines.
