
Charles Babbage envisioned a programmable mechanical machine capable of far more than simple arithmetic. The Analytical Engine, though never completed in his lifetime, contained concepts that eerily foreshadow modern computers: memory, control flow, and general-purpose calculation.
That is why Babbage matters so much. He did not merely design a calculator; he helped imagine the computer before the technology fully existed to build it.
