The American adaptation of The Office, developed by Greg Daniels from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's British original, became one of the most beloved comedies in television history and the most-streamed show on Netflix in the United States for years. Set in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the Dunder Mifflin paper company, it perfected the mockumentary format and produced one of television's great ensemble casts — Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, and Mindy Kaling among them. Michael Scott's evolution from cringeworthy embarrassment to genuinely lovable figure is one of the great character arcs in sitcom history.
