Namor the Sub-Mariner is the arrogant, hot-tempered king of Atlantis — Marvel's first mutant and one of its earliest antiheroes. Created by Bill Everett in 1939, Namor predates the Marvel Universe itself. Half-human, half-Atlantean, he possesses superhuman strength, the ability to breathe underwater, and flight via ankle wings. His contempt for surface-dwellers frequently puts him at odds with the Avengers, yet he has fought alongside them when the stakes demand it.
