Adrian Smith (born February 27, 1957, in London, England) is the lead guitarist of Iron Maiden, one of the most successful heavy metal bands in history. He joined the band in 1982, replacing Dave Murray temporarily before becoming a permanent member in 1995.
Smith received the Kerrang! Legend Award in 2009, honoring his 27-year contribution to metal music. His guitar work features rapid alternate picking and melodic solos, with playing speeds exceeding 200 beats per minute on complex passages. Iron Maiden's 2008 world tour drew over 2 million fans across 50 countries, demonstrating Smith's enduring appeal.
Beyond Iron Maiden, Smith collaborated with Bruce Dickinson on solo projects and performed with numerous metal acts. His technical proficiency and composition abilities established him as a cornerstone of the new wave of British heavy metal movement that emerged from London in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
