Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar solo on Texas Flood announced the arrival of a blues guitarist with the power and technique of a force of nature. Vaughan used extra-heavy strings tuned down a half step and attacked them with a pick grip that generated extraordinary volume and sustain. His phrasing draws directly from Albert King and Buddy Guy but the emotional intensity is entirely his own — raw, urgent, and deeply felt.
