Yngwie Malmsteen's guitar work on Black Star introduced neo-classical shred to mainstream rock guitar and permanently expanded the technical ceiling of what was considered possible on electric guitar. Malmsteen applied the compositional structures of Bach and Paganini to heavy metal at speeds and with a precision that left the guitar world stunned. He was 20 years old when he recorded it and had already made other shredders feel inadequate.
