Paul Castellano (1915–1985) was the boss of the Gambino crime family and one of the most powerful Mafia figures of his era. A businessman at heart, he preferred white-collar crime to street violence and was known for running the family like a corporation from his Staten Island mansion, dubbed the White House. He was shot dead outside Sparks Steak House in Manhattan in 1985 in a brazen hit ordered by John Gotti.
