Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada (born 1948) co-founded the Sinaloa Cartel alongside El Chapo and outlasted his famous partner by remaining free for decades through corruption and a low public profile. Unlike El Chapo, he avoided the spotlight entirely. He was arrested in the United States in July 2024 in a stunning operation and faces drug trafficking charges. He is considered one of the most significant drug traffickers ever captured.
