Genaro Garcia Luna (born 1968) was Mexico's Secretary of Public Security from 2006 to 2012, making him one of the most senior Mexican officials ever convicted of working for a drug cartel. He was on the US payroll fighting the Sinaloa Cartel while simultaneously taking millions in bribes from El Chapo's organization. Convicted in New York in 2023, he faces up to life in prison in a case that shocked the world with its exposure of high-level corruption.
