Arnold Rothstein (1882–1928) was a New York gambler, racketeer, and criminal mastermind who is widely credited with fixing the 1919 World Series — the infamous Black Sox Scandal. Known as The Brain, he was a mentor to future mob legends including Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky. He was shot during a poker game in 1928 and refused to name his killer before dying, staying true to the underworld's code of silence.
