Amado Carrillo Fuentes (1956–1997) was the leader of the Juárez Cartel and earned the nickname Lord of the Skies for his innovative use of Boeing 727 jets to transport massive cocaine shipments from Colombia to Mexico. At his peak he was worth an estimated $25 billion. He died in 1997 following a botched plastic surgery operation in which he attempted to alter his appearance to evade capture.
