Drew Houston co-founded Dropbox in 2007 after repeatedly forgetting his USB drive, building a simple cloud file sync service that grew to 700 million registered users and a $10 billion valuation. Born in Acton, Massachusetts in 1983, Houston enrolled at MIT at 17 and got the idea for Dropbox while on a bus ride, immediately writing the first code. Steve Jobs personally called Houston to offer an acquisition and, when refused, threatened to copy Dropbox — which Apple eventually did with iCloud. Dropbox's famous explainer video, which grew its beta waitlist from 5,000 to 75,000 in one day, became a foundational case study in product launch and growth marketing.
