Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in 1994 as an online bookstore and built it into the world's largest e-commerce platform, the dominant cloud computing provider through AWS, and a sprawling empire spanning logistics, media, AI, and space exploration through Blue Origin. Born in Albuquerque in 1964, Bezos quit a senior Wall Street job to start Amazon from a garage in Seattle, driven by the explosive growth of the internet. His concept of the flywheel — low prices driving volume, enabling investment in infrastructure, enabling lower prices — became one of the most studied business strategies of the modern era. AWS alone generates more profit than Amazon's entire retail business.
