
The Second Battle of El Alamein was a major Allied victory in North Africa under Bernard Montgomery against Axis forces led by Erwin Rommel. The battle halted Axis hopes of advancing into Egypt and toward the Suez Canal.
El Alamein became one of the first clear land victories for the British against Axis forces and had great strategic and morale value. It marked a turning point in the North African campaign.
