The Fall of Constantinople culminated in the Ottoman capture of the Byzantine capital after a prolonged siege. Sultan Mehmed II used artillery, naval maneuver, and relentless pressure to break one of the most famous cities in the world.
The event is often treated as the end of the Byzantine Empire and one of the great transitions between the medieval and early modern eras. It reshaped trade, diplomacy, and power in the eastern Mediterranean.
