The Battle of the Bulge was Germany's last major offensive on the Western Front in World War II. German forces struck through the Ardennes in an attempt to split Allied armies and seize Antwerp, but the offensive ultimately failed.
The battle mattered because it exhausted German reserves while demonstrating Allied resilience under surprise attack and harsh winter conditions. It was one of the largest and bloodiest battles fought by the United States in the war.
