The Battle of Hattin was fought between the forces of the Crusader states and the army of Saladin. By cutting the Crusader army off from water and forcing it into unfavorable conditions, Saladin achieved a crushing victory.
Hattin opened the way for the recapture of Jerusalem and radically changed the balance of power in the Levant. It stands as one of the defining battles of the Crusades and of medieval Islamic military history.
